El feliz retorno de Rachel Arieff a nuestras tierras no podía haberse saldado de mejor manera. En el marco del mítico Café Teatre El Llantiol, la cómica estadounidense volvía a regalarnos una nueva noche para el recuerdo. Una exhibición de Cabaret Freak, desenfadado y cáustico, entrañable y delirante, donde la artífice de "How to Be Happy All the Time" (más que un disco, una guía espiritual para muchos) daba una nueva vuelta de tuerca a su particular concepción de la comedia, facturando un espectáculo en el que imposibles pelucas, odas a los bidets y afilados apuntes sobre el american way of life compartían protagonismo con versiones de Journey y The Darkness, canciones de amor a odiosos políticos (fantástica "John Ashcroft Love Song"), piezas de avantgarde barroco escritas por gatos y disparatados discursos en spanglish.

Acompañada por nuestro compañero Sergio Martos a la batería, Rachel personifica la comedia en estado puro; sus bromas, improvisaciones e hilarantes canciones son tan demoledoras como naive, tan ácidas como espontáneas; se gana al público desde el primer minuto en un idioma que no es el suyo y le hace partícipe de todas sus locuras (el "No-nee-na-noo-no-nee-na-noo-no-nee-na-noo") del ya legendario "Mr. Tacos' Opus" fue uno de los highlights de la noche).

En definitiva, supone todo un soplo de aire fresco a niveles de auténtica comedia, y eso se agradece. Quienes no hayáis tenido la oportunidad de verla aún, tan sólo tenéis que acercaros al Café El Llantiol para comprobarlo (la cómica actuará cada lunes durante el mes de Julio en dicha sala, con el ex-Rebeldes Moises Sorolla a la batería). Una inmejorable ocasión de conocer de cerca el Maravilloso Mundo de Rachel Arieff.

Rachel Arieff's happy return to our country couldn't have been better. In the legendary Café Theater El Llantiol, the American comedian gave us another night to remember. A wild "Cabaret Freak" exhibition, charming and hilarious, innocent and caustic, where the construct of "How to Be Happy All the Time" (more than a CD, a spiritual guide to many) put a new twist on her particular view of comedy. Crazy wigs, poems about bidets, and satirical jabs at the American Way of Life shared the stage with covers of Journey and The Darkness, love songs to hated politicians (the fantastic "John Ashcroft Love Song"), baroque avant-garde pieces written by cats, and rapid-fire discussions in Spanglish.

Accompanied by our buddy Sergio Martos on drums, Rachel personifies comedy in its pure state. Her jokes, improvisations and hilarious songs are as crushing as they seem naive, as cynical as they are spontaneous. She wins the crowd over from the first minute, speaking in a language that isn't hers and getting the audience to participate in all of her crazy schemes (the "No-nee-na-noo-no-nee-na-noo" of the now legendary "Mr. Tacos' Opus" was one of the highlights of the evening).

In short, she's a breath of fresh air and a level of authentic comedy for which we're grateful.
